24 Words Per Film (#22)

The Hitchcockian shots of Naomi Watts riding her motorcycle are out of place, yet oddly more interesting than almost anything else in Eastern Promises.

I found this movie to be good for another director, but disappointing for Cronenberg. He has started down another path in his career and all I can do is wish for the strange craziness of his old films. And enough talk about the naked fight scene which I didn't find that impressive.

As a die-hard Cronenberg fan, I still want to write a piece on this new career path and how disappointing it is.

I don't know how I would've judged it had it been the work of an anonymous Hollywood hack. Would I have thought, "Pretty good for Hollywood," and left it at that? In other words, how much of my reaction is based on my disappointment in this film's existence as "Cronenberg film"?
